‘Of Beasts, Nature and Strangeness’ (watercolor + fine pen on sketch pad, 8 1/4″ x 5 1/2″)
I have this habit of randomizing stuff into my work and this practice piece above is one of them.
I couldn’t recall exactly what my intent was on this piece, every time I get to see a blank space on it I would randomly draw something or anything that comes to mind and as soon as I’m done with it, I’d get this chopsuey-type of painting filled with oddities and strangeness in front of me.

chopsuey, haha. i used that word every time a client wanted to keep adding details on a working layout. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. what pen do you use, it doesn’t seem to blotch when applied with watercolor.
I agree with you, adding or lessening details can either make or break any work piece. Most of the time I’ve been using my Rotring technical pen whenever I need to work on the outlines of my drawings before applying watercolor on them. India ink will always be my top choice since it is proven to be waterproof or blotchproof once I start working on the watercolor application. Though there are other good brands of fine felt tip pens with waterproof ink out in the market but for me the technical pen at hand is enough and it delivers its job well whenever I need to do fine detailing and outlining 🙂
